I have decided to make my blog more structured. After doing some research and checking out some awesome blogs, I have many ideas swirling around in my brain. So, I present the first of my ideas- My Etsy pick of the week.
I found out about the blog Elephantine through several other bloggers. While checking out the blog, I found out that there was also a shop on Etsy with the same name. Rachel, the brains behind the site and store, has a fantastic creative mind. She makes the most delicate and understated items. I could not help myself- I had to place an order! I can not wait until my purchases arrive!
I am a huge fan of jewelry. I am a firm believer that an outfit is not complete without it, especially necklaces. But sometimes, the outfit calls for something simple. Dogeared Jewelry (www.dogeared.com) offers some extremely simple, and very sweet jewelry. All of the necklaces have small charms on delicate chains, each charm that holds a special meaning. This company's items would make fantastic gifts as they come already packaged with great message cards. And, best of all, they are already categorized so there is no guessing as to which would be the best gift. (While you are on the website, check out Dogeared's line of "Eat, Pray, Love" items. They are perfect for fans of the book and upcoming movie!)
I recently was made aware of the online publication, The California Apparel News, which, as the name suggests, spotlights fashion in and designers from California. One of the most recent topics of discussion was the designer, Audrey Ng, and her online store, Conversation Pieces. She began her designing career from her apartment shortly after moving from Singapore to Los Angeles. As her business grew, her office moved to a guest house. She is an Indie designer with a fun, flirty and girly style. Her summer lookbook just seethes summertime and California. Best of all, her pieces are extremely affordable! And they have the greatest tagline, "regret not what you buy, but what you don't buy". Currently, until July 19th, Conversation Pieces is having a HUGE sale. Any 3 pieces are on sale for $80. These items can come from any category, any combination, that you choose. This is up to 20% off! And, they offer free shipping to US and Canadian addresses! (I am in love with the black and white striped dress.)
For as many handbags as I own, I tend to carry the same one for several months. I love the trendy looks, but for my everyday, I stick to the same type every time- roomy and sturdy. While looking for a change just recently, I can across the Balenciaga "Work" tote on the arm of Vanessa Hudgins. It had everything that I was looking for in my "standard" purse- I was in love. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I saw the price! A short time later, while looking through People Style Watch (my obsession!), I saw it again. But, wait- this was not the same purse. This purse cost only $48! That is a difference of $1060! Plus, if you shop now and enter "SECRET" at the checkout, you can get 20% off on the entire purchase! This I can do. And it also comes in brown and black- one for every outfit!
When I was 10 years old and attending Girl Scout camp, we made tie-dye t-shirts. I was so excited! Tie-dye was all the rage and I was going to customize my own! We twisted our shirts, wrapped them in rubber bands and soaked them in Rit. Mine was pink. I wore that thing to treads.
Fast forward 20 years, and tie-dye has made a comeback. It is no longer the outfit staple of the free-spirited. It has been all over the Spring runways and seen everything from shoes to bags to jewelry. Tie-dye is much chicer than it formerly was, as seen in work-appropriate skirts & cardigans. If you are still a bit unsure of this revival, start small with a scarf or purse. But remember, only one piece at a time.
Living on a budget would make most fashionistas think that diamond jewelry would be out of the question. JC Penney and Cindy Crawford do not agree. Cindy Crawford's One Kiss line is comprised of affordable diamond accented jewelry. All pieces are sale priced from $99.99 for the basic items to $305.99 for the more luxurious. Since these are fine jewelry pieces, they are considered investment pieces. Thinking of them as an investment makes it much easier (and less painful) to spend the money. All of the items to the right are priced at $99.99.
*Metallic Strappy Heels- Strappy heels are a must-have for nights out. Make those heels metallic and you give yourself an extra bit of sassy flair. Although many workplaces may not deem these shoes appropriate for work, these are a staple for dressing up. Just make sure that they are comfy before you commit to a shoe.
*The perfect jeans- I live in jeans. I have never been able to understand the people that say that they hate jeans and never wear them. How can you not like jeans?! The best style of jeans to own are boot-cut. The best wash to have is a dark wash. These are great for a casual Friday at the office, a night out with friends or running your weekend errands. The possibility are endless.
*Embellished tank- The great thing about tank tops is that they can be worn all year long. Embellished tanks are staple in your work wardrobe and your night wardrobe. They are perfect item for those days when you have a planned night out immediately following a day at work
*Pencil skirt- Another basic staple to the work wardrobe is the pencil skirt. But it is not limited to work. Fun details and prints make it wearable for weekends and nights. The pencil skirt is another item that is appropriate all year long.
*Textured flats- Flats are perfect for the days when you just do not feel like wearing those heels. Flats look great with skirts, shorts, jeans- in short, they look great with everything. They are like the fancy cousin of the flip flop. Textured flats draw the eye to the foot and add an extra bit of flair to the outfit.
*Trench Coat- The coat has been a wardrobe staple for many, many years. Although classically worn by TV & film detectives, feminine detailing and shortened length has changed the stereotype. The trench coat can be worn throughout different seasons, with a variety of fabrics being used in the coats.
